What is a manual handling certificate?
A manual handling certificate is proof that you have completed training in safe lifting and handling techniques, as required under the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work (General Application) Regulations 2007 (S.I. 299/2007). Employers in Ireland are obliged to provide manual handling training, and most sites, agencies and HR departments will ask for a current certificate before you start work.
Who needs one in Ireland?
Anyone whose work involves lifting, carrying, pushing or pulling loads: warehouse and logistics staff, construction workers, healthcare assistants, retail and hospitality staff, cleaners and office workers who handle deliveries. In practice, employers across Ireland request a certificate as standard evidence of training during onboarding.
